Bitewise is a nutrition app that helps you log your meals, track your progress, and chat with a personalized coach. This policy explains what data we handle, where it lives, and what we do (and don't do) with it.
Summary
Your data lives on your phone. If you create an account, it is also encrypted in transit to a server in the European Union and only you can access it.
What We Collect
- Profile and goals: name, sex, age, height, weight, diet type, goal (lose/maintain/gain), activity level, and preferences you enter during onboarding.
- Meal log: what you add manually, what you scan with the camera, barcodes you read, and the food photos you keep with your log.
- Progress: your weight over time, logging streak, and derived statistics.
- Coach conversations: the messages you send to the AI coach and its responses.
- Purchases: if you subscribe to Bitewise Pro, we store an anonymous RevenueCat identifier that tells us whether your subscription is active. We never see your card.
- Basic account data (if you sign up): your email and the Apple/Google identifier you use to sign in.
What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not read your contacts, location, messages, or content from other apps.
- We do not sell data to third parties.
- We do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not share your food photos or your coach conversations with anyone outside the providers strictly necessary for the app to work.
Providers
- Supabase (Frankfurt, EU): hosts your profile, logged meals, plan, and coach messages. Your row is identified by a user_id and is only accessible to your session (Row Level Security enabled).
- OpenAI / Anthropic: analyzes the food photo you scan and generates the coach's replies. Not used to train models.
- Apple Sign In and Google Sign In: authentication. We only receive the identifiers these services return.
- RevenueCat: subscription management. We only receive an anonymous identifier and the subscription status.
- Apple Push Notification Service (iOS) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android): push notification delivery. Only the device token and notification content are transmitted.
System Permissions
- Camera: required to scan meals, nutrition labels, and barcodes.
- Photo library: optional, to attach photos to your meals and progress.
- Apple Health (iOS) / Health Connect (Android): optional, to sync weight, hydration, steps, active calories, sleep, and workouts. Revocable any time from the system settings.
- Notifications: optional. If you allow them, we notify you about messages, reminders, and relevant account events.
Your Right to Delete
From Profile → Delete account you permanently erase your account and everything we have: profile, meals, plan, progress, and coach conversations. The deletion is immediate and irreversible.
If you want a copy of your data or to request deletion in writing, email support@bitewise.me. We respond within 30 days.
Payments
Bitewise Pro subscriptions are handled through Apple (App Store) on iPhone/iPad or Google Play Billing on Android, both integrated with RevenueCat. We never see your card. Cancellation is done from Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iOS, or from the Google Play app → your avatar → Payments and subscriptions on Android.
Children
Bitewise is not directed to children under 13. If we discover we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it.
Changes
If we update this policy, we will notify you inside the app before the changes take effect.
